姫路城の北側にはシロトピア公園があります。
私は散歩でよくこの公園に行きます。
秋または冬の公園について、あなたはどのようなイメージをもっているでしょうか。
私は枯葉が一面に積み重なった様子を思い描きます。
東京の井之頭公園の雑木林が思い浮かびます。
ところが姫路の公園にはほとんど枯葉がありません。
木々の根元は土がむきだしになっています。
なぜでしょうか？
毎日、掃除の人たちがブロアーで枯葉を徹底的に集め、黒色のごみ袋に詰め込み、ごみ回収車によって回収されているからです。
こうして秋から冬にかけて大量のごみ袋が毎日公園の各所に積み上げられます。
そして、これらのごみ袋はごみ回収車によって回収され、ごみ処理場で焼却処分されているのです。
ブロアーはガソリンを消費します。ブロアーは周りにけたたましい騒音を出すので、私たちは静かに散歩を楽しむことができません。枯葉を入れるための黒いビニール袋も大量に必要です。さらに枯葉を焼却することで二酸化炭素を大気中に放出します。もちろん日々の人件費も大変な金額でしょう。一方で、枯葉の積もらない公園の地面はからからに痩せています。これだけの費用と労力をかけて、一体どんなメリットがあるというのでしょうか？

In this way, a large amount of garbage bags are piled up every day in various parts of the park from autumn to winter. Then, these garbage bags are collected by a garbage collection vehicle and incinerated at a garbage disposal plant. The blower consumes gasoline. Blowers make a loud noise around us, so we can't enjoy a quiet walk. Cleaners also need a lot of black plastic bags to put the dead leaves in. Furthermore, carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere by incinerating dead leaves. Of course, the daily labor cost will be a huge amount. On the other hand, the ground of the park where dead leaves do not accumulate is thin. What are the benefits of spending so much money and effort?

姫路城近くの学校の校庭に変な形の樹木があります。
かなりの大木ですが、無残な剪定がされています。
かつては緑の葉が生い茂る立派な木でした。
よく見ると、木には札が付けられています。
There is a strangely shaped tree in the schoolyard near Himeji Castle. It's a fairly large tree, but it has been pruned miserably. It used to be a splendid trees with green leaves. If you look closely, the trees are tagged.
一つは「学問木」 One is the "Academic Tree".
もう一つは「心豊木」 The other is "a tree with a rich heart" .
子供たちが名付けたのでしょうか。
木も生き物です。すくすくと育ちたかったでしょうに。
もう芽が出ないほどに剪定されて、とても痛々しい姿です。

ちゃんとした剪定の木もある！
これまでぶつ切り剪定の松ばかり紹介してきましたが、ちゃんとした剪定の松の木もあります。これはプロの仕事です。やっぱり、かっこいいです。
姫路城の樹木の剪定はプロの仕事と素人の仕事がごちゃまぜです。
どうせならすべてプロに任せればよいのにと思います。

松の木のぶつ切り（正しくは芯止めというらしいです）剪定の続きです。
これは正面の門を入って右手のところです。

三の丸から喜斎門へ向かう途中に坂があります。
その坂のピークのところの現在の写真です。

夏には坂を上ると汗ばみます。かつては樹木が生い茂っていたので、一息ついて凉める場所でした。

でも、変な形の松の木がとても多いことに気づきました。

こうした形の悪い木は、ヨーロッパであまり目にしたことがありません。
