 姫路城周辺の公園を歩いていると、雑草をみることがありません。季節がら、あまり見かけなくて当然かもしれませんが、わずかな草も見当たらないのです。その理由は徹底した除草にあります。この冬枯れの時期でも、背中にタンクを背負った人が、小指ほどの草も見逃さずに除草剤を散布して回っています。草刈りも徹底しています。ほんのわずかの雑草も見逃さずに抜き去ります。恐ろしいほどの徹底ぶりです。姫路城周辺では、雑草が生い茂ることは全く許されていません。

When you walk in the park around Himeji Castle, you will not see weeds. Depending on the season, you may not see much, but you can't find any grass. The reason is thorough weeding. Even during this winter withering, people carrying tanks on their backs are spraying herbicides around without overlooking the grass as small as their little fingers. They also mow the grass thoroughly. Don't miss even the slightest weeds. It's a terrifying thoroughness. Weeds are not allowed to grow around Himeji Castle.

公園を歩いていると、時折理解しがたい剪定をされた樹木があります。

特に下の方がスケスケにされているものをよく見かけます。

これはおそらく枯葉などの掃除がしやすいことと、野良猫が隠れられないようにすることを意識して剪定しているものと思われます。

景観よりもそこで働く人たちの考えが優先しているようです。

As you walk through the park, you will occasionally find pruned trees that are difficult to understand. Especially, I often see the ones that are invisible at the bottom. This is probably because it is easy to clean dead leaves and pruning is done to prevent stray cats from hiding. It seems that the ideas of the people who work there are prioritized over the landscape.

姫路市立美術館の生垣。ここはお城とは管轄が異なり、年数回の業者による剪定が行われているため、きれい。

前回お話ししました姫路城の北西角の空き地には、枯枝以外に大木の輪切りされたものも転がっています。こんな立派な木もリサイクルされることなく、放置されています。今後この場所がどうなっていくか注視したいと思います。

これは紛れもない現在の姫路城です。

うず高く積み上げられた枯れ木は姫路城周辺で伐採、剪定されたものです。

姫路城の北西角の空き地に何年も前から放置され、さらに現在も次々に捨てられているので、枯れ木の山はさらに巨大化しています。

もちろん、一般の人はこんな場所に枯れ木を放置することはありません。

世界文化遺産姫路城でこんなことが堂々とできるのは、姫路市の職員しかありませんよね。

まもなく文化財防火デー。

あと何年このまま放置しておくつもりでしょうか？

殺風景なぼたん園 A bleak view

姫路城三之丸の東の高台に千姫ぼたん園があります。桜の季節には賑わいますが、今は人気もありません。冬なので樹木に葉がないのは当たり前ですが、なんとなく殺風景です。地面には枯葉一つ見当たりません。雑草一つ生えていません。とても冷たい印象を受けます。

 Senhime Botan Garden is located on the eastern hill of Sannomaru, Himeji Castle. It is crowded during the cherry blossom season, but it is not popular now. It is natural that there are no leaves on the trees because it is winter, but it is a bleak view. No dead leaves are found on the ground. No weeds are growing. I get a very cold impression.

かつては樹木が生い茂って屋根ができていたが、今では柱だけが目立つ奇妙な景観。

今日は久々の雨。公園を歩いていると、いつもは日向ぼっこをしている猫たちも、大きな木の下で雨宿り。猫たちにとっても樹木は大切な存在です。

It's been a long time since it rained today. As I walked in the park, the cats, who are usually basking in the sun, sheltered from the rain under a big tree. Trees are also important to cats.

突如、樹木が姿を消す！ Suddenly the trees disappear!

姫路城の周辺を歩いていると、確かここに樹木があったはずなのに、いつの間にかなくなっていることに気づくことがあります。私は20年以上前から姫路城周辺の様子を見てきていますが、明らかに昔に比べて樹木が減っています。公園で樹木を切る様子を見ることはよくありますが、逆に植樹されるのを見たことがありません。姫路城周辺の樹木は年を追うごとに確実に減っています。かつてはきれいに咲いていたツツジや藤の花も、姫路市の現業職員による不必要な剪定が繰り返されて、あまり咲かなくなってしまいました。かつてはきれいな樹形であった木も、今ではスケスケの見るもあわれな姿になってしまったところが多くあります。大木の伐採もよく行われています。数十年の歳月をかけて立派に育った木が突如、姿を消してしまいます。後には中途半端な高さに切られた切株だけが、痛々しく残っています。

I've been watching the area around Himeji Castle for over 20 years, and it's clear that there are fewer trees than in the past. I often see trees being cut in the park, but I've never seen them planted. The number of trees around Himeji Castle is steadily decreasing year by year. The azaleas and wisteria flowers that used to bloom beautifully have not bloomed much due to repeated unnecessary pruning by working staff in Himeji City. Trees that used to have a beautiful shape are now often seen as ill-mannered. Large trees are also often cut down. Many trees that have grown well over decades suddenly disappear. Only the stumps, which were later cut to half-height, remain painfully.
